Born in the city by the Bay, San Francisco, ASONITI FOSTER grew up in Bayview Hunters Point which was a predominately Black community. After graduating from San Francisco State University, majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in writing for television & film, she relocated to Los Angeles and began climbing the industry ladder. Success was indeed the reward, as she quickly moved up and wrote a couple episodes on Will and Jada Pinkett Smiths’ hit sitcom, “All of Us”. She also worked on several other sitcoms, at various capacities, including: “One on One”, starring Flex Alexander and Kyla Pratt, “Second Time Around” staring Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kojo and “Just Jordan” a Nickelodeon show. While honing her skills, she was abruptly met with a responsibility that cultivated into a passion with a purpose.
ALZHEIMER’S took both Asoniti’s grandmothers in 2017. Shortly thereafter, she found herself providing care for a great aunt living with it. Questioning the likelihood of personally developing the disease, she began educating herself about Alzheimer’s and what she discovered was shocking. Women are more likely to have Alzheimer’s than men and African American women are twice as likely to have it than the national average. YIKES! But it was when she learned about proven scientific methods which can reduce risk factors of Alzheimer’s, that transformed the trajectory of her life.
She and her daughter invented mental wellness support products with meditation music that are scientifically proven to reduce stress, depression and anxiety and help boost memory, focus thoughts and attract positive outcomes. With knowledge from participating in support groups, attending trainings and wellness conferences she was able to creatively and effectively be proactive to an ignored class of people. As a Community Advisory Board Member at UCLA, she has successfully merged her industry skills, caregiving experience and mental wellness knowledge to develop a documentary titled, “Puzzled”.
PUZZLED is an Alzheimer’s awareness documentary that will focus on why African American women are twice as likely to have Alzheimer’s than the national average and how to derail the disease with mental wellness. This will only be accomplished working with her daughter. As a producer on the documentary, SONI FOSTER is a teenager, currently enjoying art, skateboarding, and music – playing the French horn. Although her career goal is to become a veterinarian, she’s multi-talented in production and post-production with an eye for creative edits and attractive content. Her voice plays a vital role to the project providing Alzheimer’s awareness from an extremely youthful point of view. TOGETHER, this mother-daughter team is taking Alzheimer’s and mental health by the horns providing awareness that will touch the heart and motivate the mind. The goal is to educate, entertain and inform young people that a “check-up from the neck-up” is essential as a person in their 30’s can be on an Alzheimer’s track and not recognize it.
